Trains, Campaigns, and other Updates // March 2023
Hey everyone,
The last month or so has been a really awesome time. We dressed up, shared food, and partied hard at our first ever Anniversary party. And to quote Graham, “broke the Ballard Curse” by opening the club on Mondays!
There was so much thought and excitement that went into the party, and in its wake things at the club feel just feel a little more calm. In addition to the amazing food everyone brought to the party, folks have been cooking up some really creative ways to engage with the hobby. A couple of weeks ago a group arranged a takeover of the club for TRAINGAME—a gigantic multiplayer and narrative scenario that spanned several tables.
New Member-Led Campaigns
Sabrina & Matt have also been cooking up an amazing Narrative Kill Team campaign that blends rpg-style branching paths and storytelling with immersive narrative missions (see the Discord channel here). And we have a budding Path to Glory campaign spearheaded by Chris H. (here), as well as the continuing Horus Heresy Escalation League (here).
$1700 Raised for Planned Parenthood!
We are proud to announce that our Year Membership Promotion supporting Planned Parenthood was a great success! Thanks to everyone who participated we were able to raise over $1400 in support of reproductive care and access. We’re allocating an additional $300 as well, made possible by the club’s Community Amplifiers.
In our next Community Survey 004, we will be deciding on a new organization to support. Start stewing on it!
Beginner’s Hobby Workshop in April
We are excited to announce that we have our first Beginner's Hobby Workshop coming up on Friday, April 14th. Hosted by MIKEATRON!, local artist, color extremist, and Waystone member:
This workshop is aimed at folks that are new to the miniature hobby, or for those who want a refresher on the basics. During the 3-hour session, we will cover all the techniques necessary to go from a naked plastic model to a snazzy, table-ready miniature. You will also learn how to manage the consistency of your paints, techniques for bracing and brush handling, and then how to take care of those brushes.
The workshop will be $67.50, with a 20% discount for members. This is a great opportunity to learn from a skilled artist and to hone your painting skills. Admission available in the webstore.
Wall of Heroes Update!
We’re also thrilled to announce that we are opening up commissions for the Wall of Heroes. There is now a special listing in our webstore which, when combined with the right promo code, will allow you to commission art of one of your favorite models. Waystone won’t make any money off of these—the price will simply cover the cost of the artist's commission, the nameplate, and hanging the art. We’re hoping this will be a special way of immortalizing the favorite heroes of the club’s longest supporters. If you’ve been a member for a year or more, send us a message for the code.

That's all for now. Thank you for being a part of this community, and we look forward to seeing you around.
