That time of year // November Update

Hey all,

It’s officially that time of year. Facebook and other collective algorithmic consciousnesses have begun feeding Stefan and I photos of the before-times — from when this club was little more than a storage space for standing desks and office equipment, the husk of a bygone workshare office.

Waystone main floor circa November 2021

That means our little wargaming speakeasy is about to have its first birthday. Amidst holiday madness and continuing to learn more and more about this thing we’ve brought into being, connecting with all the awesome folks coming through the doors and everything else, we’ve started thinking about how to ring in the club’s one-year anniversary.

To me, this might be the most precious event we ever celebrate—it’s not just about a span of time, but the proof and persistence of an idea. That this wargaming speakeasy might be here to stay feels kind of miraculous, especially when I think about how in November 2021 we were waiting for another lockdown to kick the whole thing right in the shins.

Waystone’s one-year anniversary

In celebration of a lack of shin-kicking, we’re starting to plan…

  • A celebratory social-event

  • A highly-requested second run of the club’s infamous Rain City Wych Pigeons jerseys

  • An avenue for members to make their mark on the Wall of Heroes (something that hasn’t been available since the club’s Kickstarter campaign).

Reworked lounge space

We recently completed a small but impactful rework to the club’s lounge. Members requested on our most recent Community Survey that we create a space in the lounge that’s more practical for hobbying, eating, or getting work done. Hoping to see y’all cozying up here, taking advantage of those membership coffee perks, and making passersby wonder, “Who is that mysterious but dashing individual in the window of that mysterious but dashing space?”

Finally, we’d be remiss if we didn’t acknowledge that it is indeed also that time of year. We aren’t really about celebrating holidays created by credit card companies, but folks have expressed that they would enjoy supporting the club today, on this Saturday during which some choose to patronize Small Businesses. Furthermore, for a long time we’ve had humble requests coming in from people in faraway places for access to things like our recent club t-shirts. With that in mind, we’re ready to unveil the official…

Club Store Page

If you’ve got folks who want to know how they can support your hobby habits, point them here to snag you a gift card (available digitally, to ship, or for pickup in-person). Or if you’ve been eyeballing club merch from states away, we will literally hand-package and ship stuff to you anywhere in the lower 48.

We’re hoping that opening this online shop will allow some easier access for folks outside the club to some of the cool things we’re creating for our local community.

That’s all for now! If you’re curious about what else is going on, don’t forget to take a peek at our Events page, pop into the club Discord, or simply stop in and say hello. :)

All the best,
-Dustin & Stefan
