These are the interests, playstyles, and values of the group that will eventually form Waystone’s inaugural players. We’re proud to be part of a nascent community that already values fun, connection, and belonging over anything else.
What we noticed…
Overwhelmingly, our community said they envision Waystone as a place that is friendly and inviting. And this went beyond simply greeting people as they came in—our respondents were clear: homophobia and sexism should have no place here. They affirmed that players representing all ages, races, genders, sexualities, and more should be comfortable in the space. No quiet stares when a new face walks in, and no shift in the air when your partner comes in with you.
By and large, folks saw membership at Waystone as an opportunity to find new people to play with. We’ll be thinking about the ways we can scaffold the experience of meeting new folks, and getting acquainted with some fabulous new armies to play against.
Folks aren’t playing a lot of Narrative games now, but they wish they were, and see Waystone as a space that could facilitate some really rad campaigns and Crusades. Imagine a two-day event where members draft an army, then watch their story evolve as they fight alongside and against the various factions represented by other members. The potential for group storytelling is limitless.
Most folks really like to schedule their games ahead of time. Thankfully, we’ve had a reservation system in mind since Waystone was just a wispy idea in our heads. We’re testing it out now with close friends and looking forward to making it as seamless and easy as possible.
