Toddling Along // July Update

So many cool things are sprouting out of this seed we began watering back in February, yet despite the growth in the air I find myself sitting behind this bar every week admiring the same intimate scene playing out as it has since the beginning: People from all walks of life plopping down at one of Waystone’s five tables to share a few hours of life and have fun together.

Occasionally I contend with the thought that we might outgrow this place, and a protective instinct over that experience I described above kicks in. I suppose if I were a parent, this is how I’d feel—trying to savor the special warmth that only exists when something is in its infancy. Sometimes people come into Waystone and admiringly exult, This place has so much potential!” All the while I’m thinking to myself, but look at what it is right now.

We can’t stop sprouting/cobbling/toddling along though, so here’s what’s developing in these last days of July and beyond:

Organized Play at Waystone

Stefan is spearheading a huge first step for us as a club with monthly organized play events.

Here’s what Stefan shared via Discord:

Starting in August, we will be hosting tournaments right here at Waystone! You can expect to attend Kill Team and 40k tournaments on the first Saturday of the month, on an alternating schedule. This is going to start with a ten-person Warhammer 40,000 RTT on August 6th and then a sixteen-person Kill Team Tournament on September 3rd. All tournaments will be open to the public, but Waystone members will receive both priority registration and a discount on entry.

Additionally, Waystone Wargaming Speakeasy will be hosting our first annual Warhammer 40k GT sometime early next year!…

…This is going to be a big undertaking, so details surrounding cost/terrain/TOs/scheduling/etc will be trickling in as we figure them out over the coming months.

Signups for the first 40K RTT have been underway on eventbrite. Most slots have been scooped up, but there are still some spots on the waitlist. If you have any questions about upcoming tournament play at Waystone, you can hop into the #tournament-talk channel, or contact us here.

Community Survey 003

Community surveys are our way of making sure that the evolution of the space is driven by Waystone and its members, pure and simple. Soon after opening, we conducted Community Survey 002, which informed priorities such as the addition of a new custom table in the studio room, club support for The Ballard Food Bank, and the (ongoing) creation of some club demo armies.

We’re getting ready to release Community Survey 003, and this time we’re encouraging conversation in Discord so that we can dream and build ideas together as a community. For now, members can begin discussing some of the topics that will show up on the survey over in the #community-survey-july-2022 Discord channel.

Club T-Shirts!

Folks have been requesting club swag for a while now. Aside from the legendary Wych Pigeon Jersey that membership made happen back in March, we’re in the final stages of creating our first club t-shirt. Below is a mock-up:

Aside from the tongue-in-cheek riff on a trendy fashion label and a little bit of club-ethos shining through, we wanted to create something that was nice enough to actually spark joy when you put it on, without breaking the bank or totally decimating the planet. They’re being screen-printed by a local print shop as we speak—100% cotton, and available in unisex sizes from S to 3XL at $32 each.

Private Events at Waystone

Last but not least, the club is now available to book for a limited number of private events each month. This will help us open up a small but important source of income for the club. And hey, there’s also a discount for members. (You think you love Warhammer? Wait until one of you gets married here). More details here.

Till next time.
